ABOUT SFF 2022

The euphony of folk music from all different parts of the globe united in the city celebrated for its multiculturalism - Scarborough. Scarborough Folk Fest was a celebration of the sheer musical magnificence that is folk music - in all its myriad forms and variations.
Artists from Canada and abroad, including Canadian Indigenous groups, assembled in one place to share their music with others!
The performance style of every artist will be unique to them and their cultural background, and that is exactly what makes this initiative special. Essentially, through the medium of showcasing the beautiful versatility of folk music, the festival strives to promote an appreciation for cultural diversity.

ABOUT PARAMPARA

Parampara Canada is a not-for-profit organization based in Scarborough, which strives to work with communities in myriad ways to increase solidarity, empower individuals, and improve the overall wellbeing of all members of the community through the organization of multifaceted cultural/social events, creating artistic productions of arts, theatre, music, and festivals.
We try to raise awareness for important humanitarian causes by partnering with other charity causes, providing education and character-building volunteer experiences for youth, counseling, and advocacy.
We have a fair number of youth volunteer artists along with various performers for different art forms. Quite a few of these artists are newcomers in Canada and are trying to remain connected with art and culture through these various community engagements.

INSPIRATION BEHIND SFF

This is an open-to-all event and we welcome everyone here. An inter-community, intercultural, and inter-faith exchange is necessary to promote appreciation for different groups of people and their respective traditions, teachings. Scarborough is a big hub of people from different nationalities, backgrounds and cultures. It is important to know about our neighbors and people who live in our community. This event will bring a perfect opportunity to learn about the diverse people, their different needs and give us a chance to learn to respect others. Many of us have come from different parts of the world and are trying to integrate in this country. Our second generation may not have the knowledge about their roots and culture. They go to schools, universities, and the workplace where they must mingle with people from many different backgrounds. Learning about their own and other people’s culture is needed for their integration. This is necessary to create an open minded, respectful and non-judgmental environment. We wish to organize this folk fest every year so that it ultimately becomes a family in itself.
The Scarborough Folk Fest will create an open and safe space for meeting, greeting, mingling, laughing, sharing stories and overall having a good time together for the community members. This will create the atmosphere of harmony and appreciation for different cultures. Audience will have a chance to learn about each other's lives, culture, food, practices and better understand their neighbors. Young artists will have a chance to showcase their talent in front of a diverse audience. This will help nurturing new and emerging talents.
